Diffraction Interference Induced Superfocusing in Nonlinear Talbot Effect
We report a simple, novel subdiffraction method, i.e. diffraction interference induced superfocusing in second-harmonic (SH) Talbot effect, to achieve focusing size of less than λSH/4 (or λpump/8) without involving evanescent waves or subwavelength apertures. By tailoring point spread functions with Fresnel diffraction interference, we observe periodic SH subdiffracted spots over a hundred of m...
متن کاملNonlinear Talbot effect.
We propose and experimentally demonstrate the nonlinear Talbot effect from nonlinear photonic crystals. The nonlinear Talbot effect results from self-imaging of the generated periodic intensity pattern at the output surface of the crystal. To illustrate the effect, we experimentally observed second-harmonic Talbot self-imaging from 1D and 2D periodically poled LiTaO(3) crystals. Both integer an...
متن کاملTheory of nonlinear Talbot effect
The nonlinear Talbot effect, in which self-images are formed by generated parametric light from the nonlinear optical process, is presented in this paper. The comparison is made between the conventional Talbot effect and the newly observed nonlinear case. The essence of such nonlinear self-images is provided and future work on this effect is also discussed. The conceptional extension achieved h...
متن کاملTemporal Talbot effect in interference of matter waves from arrays of Bose-Einstein condensates and transition to Fraunhofer diffraction
We consider interference patterns produced by coherent arrays of Bose-Einstein condensates during their one-dimensional expansion. Several characteristic pattern structures are distinguished depending on value of the evolution time. Transformation of Talbot “collapse-revival” behavior to Fraunhofer interference fringes is studied in detail.
متن کاملTalbot effect in cylindrical waveguides
We extend the theory of Talbot revivals for planar or rectangular geometry to the case of cylindrical waveguides. We derive a list of conditions that are necessary to obtain revivals in cylindrical waveguides. A phase space approach based on the Wigner and the Kirkwood-Rihaczek functions provides a pictorial representation of TM modes interference associated with the Talbot effect.
